Athletics Carnival and Athletics Day

Friday 22 September saw our Senior School come together for the annual Athletics Carnival on the Caterer, Wilson and Farr ovals.

The grounds were a sea of colour as boys represented their Houses in individual and team championship, House and participation style events.

In the lead-up to the day we had several longer foot races on Main Oval which enabled the middle distance runners to get through their events with some rest in between races.

Congratulations to the boys for their efforts as they made the day special when competing hard and giving it their all. A big thank you to the Athletics Carnival Co-ordinator Mr Humphreys, who organises the whole event; and to the Facilities, Grounds and Maintenance Staff who make our grounds look like we are holding the Olympic Games. The set-up of the tents, the marking of the grounds and the aesthetics of the whole area make it enticing for the boys.

In the lead-up races on Main Oval it is important to mention the efforts of Adam G, in the Under 14 age-group, who broke two records in the 1,500m and 3,000m Open event. This is an outstanding effort, which made us all stand and applaud as Adam was running the final lap.

Luke H also showed he has spring in his step by breaking several jump records.

School & Allen broke the Under 16 4 x 100m relay, which had stood since 1969, which shows their speed and teamwork on the day.

There were 11 records broke on the day which is amazing, considereing each of the past five years there has been between 2-5 records broken.

The results of the day are listed as follows:

Murray Bridge – 24 hour Pedal Prix Event

The Murray Bridge Pedal Prix was impacted upon with inclement weather (strong winds) which meant that the boys could not get onto the track at the expected start time.

With the delayed start, this meant everything would be quicker but our Category 3 team, Vector, performed well and finished the race 3rd in this category after 20 hours of racing.

Our Category 2 Team, Venom, finished 29th in their Category and our Category 1 Team, Venom Jnr, finished 26th in their category. Well done to all boys who participated in trying circumstances and congratulations on a great year of racing.

A big thank you to Mr Lamont (Teacher in Charge of Pedal Prix), Mr Coventry (Manager) and Coach, Fergus Kelso (MAC '14), for helping maintain all 3 trikes. Well done to William R, Captain of Pedal Prix, for his care for the Teams and to the parents who support the boys at these massive events. They are like Formula 1 Grand Prix’s with their setups.

Soccer

Our Saints First XI have played two Soccer games in the past fortnight, winning the Joe Mullen Cup, against Blackfriars in what was a high level game. The score finished with a 5-1 score-line for our boys who played well.

Following this, Saints played against a talented Underdale High side in the Secondary Schools Statewide Knockout Semi-Final but were on the end of a similar score-line, but this time it was a defeat. Unfortunately, Will H sustained a serious arm injury which we hope he recovers from quickly.

Cricket

On Saturday 16 September Saints First XI Cricket Team played the Scorpions, the State Womens Cricket team.

Batting first our boys played quite well scoring a solid total of 6/240, with Alex R and Jett M scoring half centuries. When the Scorpions batted they scored freely early but our boys rallied to ensure there was a comfortable win with the final score being SA Scorpions 10/150.

On another positive note two of our boys in Hamish G and Will M have been selected in the South Australian U17 State cricket team, playing currently at the National Carnival. Congratulations boys.
